Heart of Ghent 10K Event Information
Heart of Ghent 10K and Kid's Fun Run rings in the fall season to historic Ghent in Norfolk with a fit, festive, charitable family oriented run/walk through the historic and scenic Ghent neighborhood. With its unique blend of fine restaurants, boutiques, cafes, shopping, professional services, and quiet residential neighborhoods, Norfolk's Historic Ghent is an ideal location for this great event that is a "don't miss" race on the regional running calendar.
Race Postponement Infromation:
Due to the impending storm and projected extreme flooding, we regret to announce that the race will need to be postponed to 10/10/2015. Please visit this link for the postponement release.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience, but we hope you can understand that the circumstances are beyond our control. Since most of the expenses for conducting the event have already been incurred, we cannot offer refunds. We are offering four options for our registered participants.
1. You may elect to run the race as re-scheduled on 10/10/2015. If you would like that option, simply do nothing and you will be registered for the event.
2. You may defer your registration to race on September 24, 2016. Please visit this link for directions in completing your deferral to the 2016 event. You will be assessed a $15 change fee for 10K or $5 for kids run for this option.
3. You may elect to transfer your registration to another runner. In order to use this option follow the instrcutions for deferral at this link. Then provide the deferral code to your replacement runner. There will be a $15 change fee for the 10K or $5 for the kid's mile. It will be your responsibility to recoup your registration and change fee from your replacement runner.
4. Virtual option! You can run a 10k the week before our new race date (10/5-9) and by sending us your distance/time/name, you’ll be able to pick up your packet (shirt and medal) at Packet Pick-up on 10/9 at Running Etc. in Norfolk from 3pm-7pm or you can send us an email and we’ll make arrangements for you to pick it up from a location in Norfolk on Monday. For those of you who will be leaving the state/country, please email us at email@example.com and we’ll work with you. Sorry, virtual runners will not be posted finishers and are not eligible for overall or age group awards.
The change or deferral deadline is 10/6/15. After that, we will not be ble to process any changes.
Heart of Ghent 10K and Kid's Fun Run starts and finishes on Colley Avenue in Ghent across from Blair Middle School 730 Spotswood Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23517. 10K race starts promptly at 8 a.m. Kid's Fun Run at 9:30. See Maps for full course desctiptions

The registration fee is; $35 until 8/3/15, $40 8/4/15-10/09/15, $45 on race day for all Adult 10K participants, and includes: race number, official race Tech shirt, custom finisher medal, great post race party and more! The registration fee for the Children's run is $10, and includes: race number, and souvenir finisher medal. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email on Wednesday October 7th. Corporate Team Challenge:
For the first time, Heart of Ghent 10k offers Corporate Team Challenge presented in part, by The Blocker Family YMCA.
Corporate Team Challenge offers companies an extraordinary opportunity to add some excitement, team building and good‐natured competition to the work place while promoting health and fitness.
The Blocker Family YMCA Corporate Team Challenge gets employees of all types moving. No matter the speed, teams are an easy way to encourage teamwork and a fun atmosphere among co-workers!.
Any corporation, profit or non‐profit, may participate. All full and part‐time employees are eligible and encouraged to join! The more, the merrier!

Early packet pick up will be on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Running Etc. at 1707 Colley Avenue Norfolk, VA 23517. Runners are encouraged to pick up early to avoid lines on race day. You may pick up packets for friends and family. Packet pickup is also available on race day in front of Blair Middle School 730 Spotswood Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23517 from 6:30 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.. Join Hot House Yoga at 7:30 in front of the Showmobile for a pre-race stretch and race energization just before hitting the start line.
Top three overall male and female 10K run and 10K walk winners and top three male and female runners in each age category will receive awards; 12 and under 13-15, 16-19, 20-24,25-29,30-34,35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over. Age group winners receive a hand made mermaid award from local artists at Bridget's in Ghent and gift certificate from Running Etc. Kid's Fun Run participants will receive a souvenir finisher medal.
We'll be giving away random gifts from our vendors and sponsors in a raffle at the post race party. Stick around for your chance to win.

This race will benefit local charities ACCESS AIDS Care, For Kids, Ronald McDonald House, EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center and Blocker Family YMCA.
A post race party will be held in the parking lot beside Blair Middle School. Food will be provided by Moe's Southwest Grill and YNot Pizza and locally crafted beer from O'Connor and Smartmouth Brewing Companies will be on tap. There will also be live music by the band Dirty Toys. The party continues all day throughout Ghent. Many restaurants and businesses will be offering specials throughout the day.
